Because Korean carries far more low-frequency energy than English, we test all the way down to a very low 125 Hz, even if it takes a little longer. This lets us measure the hearing you still have in fine detail and put it to use when we build and fine-tune your hearing aid. (When needed, we also run an extended high-frequency test up to 20,000 Hz. Typical university hospitals and hearing-aid centers all just run a quick test at 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000, and 8000 Hz.)
Speech understanding testing (SRT, WRS, SRS)
Simply hearing sound and actually understanding speech are two different things.
To choose the right hearing aid, and also to predict how well it will work and set your rehabilitation goals, we always carry out speech understanding (word recognition) testing.
Uncomfortable loudness level (UCL) test
To set your hearing aid so that everyday surrounding sounds come through as comfortably as possible, we test your uncomfortable loudness level
(UCL). This step identifies the loudness at which each frequency starts to feel uncomfortable, so that once you wear your hearing aid, we can keep irritation to a minimum even in loud, noisy surroundings.
See the improvement in your hearing for yourself after fitting
1. Functional gain assessment - much like taking an eye test while wearing your glasses, we measure your hearing thresholds while you wear the hearing aid to confirm how much it improves your hearing.
2. Speech understanding assessment - we compare your speech understanding scores before and after wearing the hearing aid to confirm the real improvement in your ability to communicate.
We run pure-tone audiometry and speech (word) clarity testing, and when needed, speech-in-noise testing as well. We put real numbers to how much and how clearly you hear right now.
